Tree Care Service: Bacterial Leaf Scorch
Bacterial Leaf Scorch (BLS) is a systemic disease caused by bacteria entering the tree's xylem. It is then spread from tree to tree by various insects. BLS is common in Oaks, especially Pin Oak, but can also be found in Maples, Sweetgums, and London Planes.
Symptoms of Bacterial Leaf Scorch
The key symptom is premature browning of the leaves in late summer. While driving through Valley Forge Park, observe the many Oak trees with BLS.
Treatment
BLS can be treated with a trunk-injected antibiotic and should be combined with regular pruning and deep root fertilization for the best results. Kindly note that there is no cure for BLS, but by using the treatment methods above, we can slow the progression of the disease and extend the life of your tree.
