For Insufficient Moisture, Drought Stress & Wilt Protection

For Philadelphia’s Main Line, the hot and humid summer months of June, July and August certainly brings some crazy weather. Heavy, unrelenting thunderstorms alternate with two-to-three week periods of 90-degree temperatures with little, if any, rain. Although it is the heavy rain storms that often stick in our minds, we are always reminding our customers that even a two-week period of no rain constitutes as a short-term drought. A complete lack of water for even this short time span can be extremely detrimental to the health of our trees and shrubs.

For customers without in-ground or dripline irrigation, we recommend seasonal mulch to help regulate soil temperatures and increase water retention. In my opinion, it is never too late or the wrong time of year to mulch. Alex and I have had success mulching as late as July and August and often apply mulch to our landscape 2 or 3 times a year.

For additional help with moisture management, we recommend two products: Hydretain and NutriRoot.

Hydretain is specifically designed to reduce watering frequency by helping plants utilize soil moisture that would otherwise be lost to evaporation. A proprietary blend of hygroscopic humectant compounds, Hydretain attracts water molecules in the soil to create plant usable water droplets in the root zone. Pretty cool, right?

  • Ideal for mature, well-established trees and shrubs.

  • Reduces watering requirements

  • Protects against drought stress

  • Increases nutrient efficiency

  • Lasts up to 3 months

NutriRoot is a soil-applied fertilizer that contains Hydretain. It is a unique blend of nutrients, seaweed extract, humic acid, surfactants, and humectants designed to accelerate root development. Unlike products currently available on the market that are purely nutrient based or standalone water management products, NutriRoot combines these and more into one easy and effective treatment.

  • Ideal for new plantings, transplanted trees or shrubs & mature trees and shrubs.

  • Supplies organic matter and aids in the proliferation of soil microorganisms

  • Reduces water run-off from repellent, dry soil surfaces

  • Can be used throughout the entire growing season

Untreated: Smaller, Yellow/Brown Color, Unhealthy

Treated with NutriRoot: Much more mass, Healthy White Color, More Finer Root Hairs for Increased Water Absorption
