Champion Tree Service: Growth Stop Tree & Shrub Application
When to Apply: Any time throughout the year (except when ground is frozen)
Active Ingredient: Paclobutrazol
Application Method: Soil Injection (a probe is inserted 3-6” below soil where the mixture is released into ground)
Control Period: 2-3 years depending on plant size and application rate
How It Works: The Paclobutrazol chemical compound is a gibberellic acid inhibitor. Gibberellic acid is the hormone inside the plant that elongates the plants’ cells, which extends the tissues and results in longer new growth.
Note: Plant cells will continue to split and form new cells, but these new cells will be densely compacted for shorter growth.
Result: 60-90% reduction in new vegetative growth (this product will not shrink your plant from its current size!).
-
Less time spent shearing and shaping
-
Reduce cost of routine tree pruning and maintenance
-
Maintain plants’ current size in smaller landscapes or tight spaces (near patio/deck, walkway, corner of house, etc.)
Alex and I packed our empty, small yard full of plants when we first moved into our home in King of Prussia. Now, our trees and shrubs have quadrupled in size and some beds are overcrowded. We use our Growth Stop product to maintain our trees and shrubs current size and make them more manageable. We love less weekend work!
Ideal For: Maple, Oak, Elm, Boxwood, Rhododendron, Burning Bush, large Viburnum species such as Leatherleaf, Arborvitae ‘Green Giant’, River Birch, Skip Laurels and more!

Secondary Benefits:
-
Increase root mass and fine root hairs which are crucial for drought resistance and greater nutrient uptake.
-
Build up carbohydrate reserve for stress periods and winter.
-
More chlorophyll cells per inch which result in darker, vibrant green leaves with a thicker, waxy outer layer. This is important for disease and pest resistance!
